Local Plans and Core Strategies
Each Local Planning Authority is required to produce a Local Plan and Core Strategy which defines their approach to development and replaces the previous system of Local/Unitary Development Plans. Core Strategies must comply with the National Planning Policy Framework.
The Herefordshire Core Strategy was adopted in 2015
following over 4 years of drafting and revision. The
Wye Valley Society commented on several of the draft
proposals. The complete Local Plan and Core Strategy
can be found here.
The Monmouthshire Council Local Development Plan was
adopted in 2014 and can be found here.
The Forest of Dean Core Strategy was adopted in 2012 and can be accessed here.
When commenting on planning applications it is
important to reference both the Local Plan/Core
Strategy and, in many cases, the National Planning
Policy Framework as these define the policies against
which planning applications will normally be
considered. Local Plans and Core Strategies are
required to take account of the AONB Management Plan
and specific landscape protection afforded to Areas of
Outstanding Natural Beauty.
