A brief History

firefoxThe Lower Wye Valley Society was established in 1968 as a ‘preservation’ society, anxious to resist inappropriate change in and around the Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire parts of the Wye Valley AONB.

The Herefordshire Wye Valley AONB Society was set up in 2004 to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the Herefordshire section of the Wye Valley AONB.

Both societies were very active and successful in their areas, but decided in 2008 that there were obvious advantages in merging to cover the whole of the AONB.

firefoxAt two Extraordinary General Meetings held simultaneously on the 4th March, 2009 at the Old Court Hotel, Whitchurch, the proposed merger of the two societies was voted for unanimously by members.

The new society was named the Wye Valley Society.
