Planning introduction
The
Planning area of our site is divided into three
sections - Local Plans/Core Strategies, Planning
Applications and the AONB Management Plan, maintained
by the AONB Unit.
Local Plans/Core Strategies
contain the policies that define the overall approach
to planning and how planning is expected to affect the
local community. Each of the 3 Planning Authorities
within the Wye Valley AONB has developed their own
unique Local Plan/Core Strategy and we have provided
links to their own websites where the various
documents can be accessed.
Development Control is about control of actual development projects as they occur, through the management of Planning Applications. It is now possible to access all new planning applications, together with the majority of applications dating back to 2006, through Local Authority Planning Portals. Again we have provided links to the portals for Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and the Forest of Dean. We also receive a weekly list of planning applications, in the AONB, courtesy of the Wye Valley AONB Unit. Any member of the Society who would like an email copy of this list should contact the Secretary. Please note, the list is in Microsoft Excel.
The AONB Management Plan deals with conservation and enhancement projects for the benefit of present and future generations. The AONB Unit works with a Joint Advisory Committee and many partners, including Government bodies and voluntary organisations.
Each section here is but a brief introduction to its topic. More than that is beyond the scope of this website. Each planning body works differently so methodology, nomenclature, timings and presentation differ between them.
The links on the right lead to further links to the relevant areas of the three Local Authority websites where the various sub-topics are covered in more detail.
